This is
my first time writing in English. I absolutely feel frustrated because of my grammar.
It is not easy when I must speak or write in English. In the other hand, I
fully understand when I read articles or journals. My pronunciation is so bad
that often makes people confusing. Occasionally, what I mean is different of the
listener understanding. Shortly, English is my achilles heel.
In this
writing, I want to tell you about my experiences with English. I knew English
for the first time when I was a student of the fifth grade in the elementary
school. In the time, I bought a book which had materials of many subjects. One
of those was English. Although it was only a few of English, I was delightful.
Because I did not know what the rules of English, I spelled all of words with
the same way when I read Indonesian.
I did
not have English teacher in my elementary school, because I lived in
countryside. When I was a student of junior high school, I felt strange
studying English for several months. I never had studied the rule before. Because
I was a student of the best schools in the city, my teacher considered all of
students knowing English well. I wanted to ask when I did not understand, but
my shame made me could not say anything.
Live must
go on. I patiently studied English from the base. Actually, I did not study it because
of my willingness. It was for my final test. Because of that, I forgot all
about English when I finished my examination. My grade of English is good
enough. In the senior high school, English was more difficult than before. Many
of rules, longer text, and more complicated vocabularies made me lazy to study
English anymore.
I
thought that the latest time studying English was in the senior high school. I am
absolutely wrong about that. I must study it at university. More than before,
it is more extensive. Almost all of my text books are in English. If I wanted
to be the best student in my campus, speaking English fluently was the prime
prerequirement. Because of English, I always fail to be the best student in my
faculty. After I graduated from university, I got many difficulties because I
can not speak English well.
As a
alumnus of physics, my GPA is good enough to get a schoolarship from abroad. But,
my ability of English is the biggest obstacles. I do not have enough daring to
study abroad. Finally, I luckily get schoolarship from LPDP. This is the only
one that allow me to apply with TOEFL score is lower than five hundred. After I
met many friends getting LPDP schoolarship in PB class for three months, I
finally understand why English is the most important things to make our dreams
come true.
